A new technology company in Paris, called Genesis AI, has recently unveiled a robotic hand that moves almost exactly like a humanโ€™s. Although scientists have built robots for many years, they have often struggled to recreate the “dexterity” of human fingers. Dexterity is the ability to perform difficult tasks with your hands, such as tying a shoelace or picking up a tiny needle.

The company has also created a digital “brain” called GENE-26.5. This is a foundation model, which is a type of advanced AI that can be taught to do many different things. In recent demonstrations, the robotic hand was seen solving a Rubikโ€™s Cube, cooking a meal, and even playing the piano. This is impressive because these tasks require a gentle touch and very precise movements.

How the Robots are Trained

To help the robot learn, the engineers invented a special “data glove.” When a human wears this glove, the robot mirrors their movements perfectly. Despite the technology being incredibly advanced, the glove is much cheaper to produce than older versions. This allows the company to collect a huge amount of information about how humans move, which the robot then uses to practice in a virtual world before trying the movements in real life.

This invention is not just for fun; it is designed to help in factories and laboratories. Many jobs, such as bundling thin wires inside a car, are currently too difficult for traditional robots.
