Electricity is a form of energy that powers our homes, schools and devices. For electricity to flow, it needs a complete, unbroken path called a circuit. A simple circuit includes a power source (like a battery), wires to carry the current, and a component such as a bulb or buzzer. If the circuit is broken anywhere โ€” even a tiny gap โ€” electricity stops flowing and the bulb goes out. This is exactly how a switch works: it creates or closes a gap in the circuit. Some materials allow electricity to flow through them easily โ€” these are called conductors (most metals, especially copper). Materials that block the flow are called insulators (rubber, plastic, wood). In a series circuit, components are connected in one single loop. Adding more bulbs to a series circuit makes each bulb dimmer, as the electrical energy is shared. In a parallel circuit, components are on separate branches, so each bulb receives the full power and stays bright.
