โญ Key Facts

1 An angle measures the amount of turn between two lines meeting at a point, measured in degrees (ยฐ).
2 A right angle is exactly 90ยฐ; an acute angle is less than 90ยฐ; an obtuse angle is between 90ยฐ and 180ยฐ.
3 Angles on a straight line always add up to 180ยฐ; angles around a full point always add up to 360ยฐ.

Learn to identify, name and measure angles โ€” from acute to reflex.

An angle is a measure of turn โ€” it tells us how far one line has rotated from another around a shared point. Angles are measured in degrees (ยฐ), with a full turn being 360ยฐ and a half turn being 180ยฐ. There are several types of angle. An acute angle is less than 90ยฐ. A right angle is exactly 90ยฐ โ€” the corner of a square โ€” and is marked with a small square symbol. An obtuse angle is greater than 90ยฐ but less than 180ยฐ. A straight angle is exactly 180ยฐ (a straight line). A reflex angle is greater than 180ยฐ. Knowing angle facts helps us calculate unknown angles: angles on a straight line add up to 180ยฐ; angles around a full point add up to 360ยฐ; and angles in a triangle always add up to 180ยฐ. We measure angles using a protractor, aligning its centre point with the vertex (corner) of the angle and reading the scale. Angles appear in architecture, engineering, sport, navigation and art.
